In 1989, Remco Bakker graduated from the Dutch Film Academy situated in Amsterdam. In the early years of his career, he worked as a camera assistant and lighting technician. An experience that shaped his craftsmanship.

More than 30 years later, he is a seasoned Director of Photography, known for his intuitive camerawork and visual storytelling. His work is further characterized by a strong sense of atmosphere, striking camera movements and framing.

Remco has collaborated closely with renowned directors such as:

These collaborations led to various awards, including “Gouden kalveren” and a “Nipkow Schijf”

He enters every production full of energy. Dedicated, tireless, enthusiastic and full of creativity to tell a story with rhythm, camera operating, mise en scene, atmosphere and a deep belief that good cinematography can not only support the story but als enhance it.

With a wealth of experience and an extensive professional network, Remco is currently taking the next step in his career. This began in 2023: a collaboration with a journalist/director friend to create an independent documentary about the golden age of the populair magazine Panorama.

Since then, various documentary projects have followed, all of which are currently still in development.

His interest has also been piqued towards sustainable and responsible enterprises.

He is actively building  a netwerk of like-minded companies with the goal of delivering authentic and visually appealing productions that organizations can proudly show to the world.

“Working on a production and see other cameramen at work, experiencing how they conduct themselves as a Director of Photography and use their skills, taught me more than theory lessons or books”.
“The camera is also a character and the art is to tell the story without becoming dominant, although that does not apply for every production…”.
“ I feel drawn to companies and initiatives that are innovative in the field of sustainability. I want to use my skills to help those kind of companies tell their story, visually, honestly and creatively”.
